I vote for a rescue! It would send such an important message and do a lot to help raise the profile of rescue organizations nationwide.
I know smaller dogs are all the rage, but don't forget that big dogs need love and homes, too!

Dogs trust in the UK has HRH the Queen as patron and has a history going back 100 years.
The White House Palace connection would send out the right message to children re animal welfare.
Founded in 1891, Dogs Trust, formerly known as the NCDL, has always campaigned on U.K. dog-welfare related issues. Dogs Trust in the United States will be run as a charitable foundation in partnership with an international petcare company incorporating DogsTrust & Cats Trust as Charitable Foundations.
